Kick off summer in BIG way! Emmet County Conservation will host a Summer Kickoff and open house at the Nature Center 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25.
At the Summer Kickoff guests will see new displays in the Nature Center. This will include a visiting display of Big Island Grove (B.I.G.) Artifacts. The B.I.G. artifacts display includes arrowheads, knives, pottery and tools found around Big Island Grove, the current location of the Emmet County Nature Center, Wolden Recreation Area, High Lake, Cunningham Slough, Peterson Point Historic Farmstead site and Ingham Lake.
Other displays include the interactive habitat display (constructed by the J.D. Speltz's North Union High School art club and the North Union shop class), wingspans and nest building display, nature discovery table featuring frog chorus instruments and the explore Emmet archaeology table.
There will be a free-will offering picnic lunch available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Activities and crafts for kids will be available from 1-4 p.m. and include storytime, a bigfoot craft, young explorers hike and outdoor games. A Bigfoot program will start at 7 p.m. with a bonfire at dusk. Celebrate the start of summer with us!
