CLEAR LAKE - The North Union Baseball Team sufered a 3-2, 8-inning loss to Clear Lake on Tuesday.
The Warriors scored a run in the first and Clear Lake scored one in the third. The score remained tied until the eighth inning when the Lions outscored the Warriors 2-1 in the eighth.
North Union scored its first run when Colin Runksmeier reached on an error. Sawyer Doocy singled and two passed balls allowed Runksmeier to score.
For Clear Lake in the third inning, Gavin Sheakley and Matt Stephaney both drew walks to start the inning. A grounder up the middle allowed the Warriors to get the force at second base. But Sheakley scored when Pete Swenson grounded out to second.
In the eighth inning, Vaske reached on an error and pinch runner Aaron Swalve went to second on a sacrifice by Brandon Kollasch and to third on a sacrifice by Jake Adams.
But Clear Lake came up with consecutive singles by Swenson and Mitch Keeren. A sacrifice bunt by Luke Schiller moved the runners and both scored when Logan Kracht reached base on a two-out error.
Doocy pitched 4 2 /3 innings for North Union giving up one run on two hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. Cody Runksmeier took the loss as he gave up two unearned runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Clear Lake's Sheakley pitched a complete game, giving up two unearned runs on two hits with 14 strikeouts and one walk.
Cody Runksmeier was 1-4 with an RBI while Doocy was 1-3. Corey Vaske drew the lone walk. A double by Cody Runksmeier scored the run.
North Union (2-2) had its Wednesday game with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura cancelled. The Warriors are scheduled to travel to Buffalo Center this evening to face North Iowa.
