Luella (Babe) Belle Summers, the daughter of Stephen and Leola (Harding) Lough, was born Aug. 24, 1915, at LaRose, IL.
Luella ‘Babe’ Summers
She was raised by her step-father, Amos Tomlinson. The family moved to Iowa when she was a small child and was raised on a farm near Ringsted, Iowa. She received her elementary education at the Hopric Country School and attended and graduated from the Ringsted High School. In order for her to be able to attend high school she worked as a nanny for her room and board.
She was united in marriage to Jerry Summers on Feb. 4, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed near Ringsted until 1951, when they moved to Estherville with their three children. Jerry passed away on Feb. 7, 1975.
Babe's life centered around her family and friends. She enjoyed being a homemaker, raising a garden and growing flowers. She loved to spend the summer months at the family's cabin at Lake Okoboji. She enjoyed fishing, especially the Northern Minnesota trips, and trying to out fish the guys. Babe crocheted and made sure each new baby received a Christmas stocking. In the later years, the little ones brought great joy to her life.
Left to cherish Babe's memory is her daughter, Shirley, and her beloved grandchildren, Blaine (Heidi), Brian (Gail), Lorraine (Greg), Amy (Dan), Michael, Jason, Kayleen (Chris), Heather (Mike), Nicole (Steve), 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Babe was proceeded in death by her husband Jerry; two sons, Dennis and Richard; son-in-law, Clarence; one great-great grandson, Cole; three brothers, Clayton, Lyle and Bud and one sister, Rowena.
