Indians perfect in 2013 young season

SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake baseball team remains perfect on the season after Lakes Conference wins over Cherokee on Friday and Spencer on Monday.

The Indians fell behind the Braves 2-0 in the first inning, but Paul Brown and his defense held the Braves scoreless the rest of the night while putting together a 4-2 win.

Brown finished the night giving up two earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Spirit Lake managed just five hits, but also drew seven walks.

Brandon Stoll was 2-3 with two doubles, two stolen bases and an RBI. Nic Amudson, Nile Skogerboe and Tony Eckert each went 1-3. Eckert also had an RBI.

Stoll pitched a no-hitter, 5-0 shut out against Spencer on Monday. He struck out 10 batters and walked three.

The Indians finished with seven hits with Brown going 2-3 with a double. Reese Salmon also was 2-3 while Amudson, Stoll and Andrew Ites each went 1-3. Skogerboe had an RBI.

Spirit Lake (6-0 overall) was scheduled to play at MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday.

The Indians are at LeMars this evening.
