OKOBOJI - Estherville Lincoln Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Okoboji on Friday and although the Midgets didn't get much after that, they held on for a 5-3 victory.
Liz Brashear earned the win as she went the distance. She gave up three runs (two earned) on 11 hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Macy Dahl led off the game with a single. Carson Gjerde then beat out the throw on her bunt as Dahl went to third. Gjerde went for the delayed steal and Dahl scored as the Pioneer defense tried to get Gjerde. Emily Kirchner stepped up and delivered an RBI single. She then stole second and scored two passed balls later.
The Pioneers got within one as they score a run each in the first and third innings.
ELC put up insurance runs in the fifth and the sixth.
In the fifth, Kristen King led off with a single which was followed by one-out singles from Gjerde and Kirchner with Kirchner's hit scoring the run.
With two outs in the sixth, Rachel Bate singles and went to second when the outfielder bobbled her hit. A bloop single to right field by King allowed Bates to score.
Kirchner finished 3-4 with two RBIs while Gjerde was 2-3 and King was 2-2 with an RBI. Dahl was 1-4.
ELC (10-6 overall) is on the road against Cherokee on Monday.
The ELC Junior Varsity lost 7-3 to Okoboji on Friday. Megan Jensen pitched six innings giving up seen runs (six earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Carson Gjerde was 1-3 and scored a run. Sadie Rosenboom was 2-3 with an RBI and a run.
