Downtown Market start of something big

June 14, 2013
Estherville Daily News

Anyone who came to the Downtown Market Thursday from 5-7 p.m. was in for a real treat when Amber Norgaard offered a full two hours of music.

Norgaard accompanied herself on guitar and piano, offering a great repertoire of folk-inspired music.

And the weather was perfect. If anyone wanted great weather for the first market, it was there.

There was also a good variety of vendors, featuring a lot of crafts, home-baked goods and other items. If you're invited to a neighborhood barbecue this summer or having friends over, the Downtown Market is a great place to go to find some unique food to share. A number of Relay for Life teams are there as well, doing what they do best - having a good time while raising money for a great cause.

And if you're searching for an unusual or meaningful gift, you'll find it there at the market.

We hope to see you there at the next Downtown Market. It's held 5-7 p.m. every Thursday through Sept. 5 except for the Fourth of July, in Library Square between Sixth and Seventh Streets on Central Avenue in Estherville.

And if you'd like to be a vendor, it's a great venue for very little investment - just $20 for the entire summer.

For vendor information contact the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce at 362-3541.

Here's a rundown on entertainment for the Downtown Market for the rest of the summer:

n July 11 - Dee McDonald. If you've lived in Estherville any amount of time, you've probably heard Dee's music. As activities director at Rosewood Manor, she puts her heart and soul into providing wholesome and inspiring music for residents. She's also been a regular at the Emmet County Fair, Gospel on the Square and Relay for Life.

n July 18 - Grandview Baptist Puppets. This is a very entertaining performance, and very appropriate for the entire family.

n Steve Mahin & Family. If you like great music from the heart, this group is it.

n Aug. 22 - Grandview Baptist Puppets encore performance.
