No. 2 Warriors notch two more wins

SPENCER - Class 2A No. 2 North Union continued its winning ways with a pair of wins at the Spencer Tournament on Friday.

The Warriors rallied to defeat Denison-Schleswig 6-5 in the first game and then beat Spirit Lake 7-4.

Against the Monarchs, North Union trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. With the games under a time limit, the Warriors needed to score.

Sara Johnson led off with a single and with one out, a single by Taylor Mathine scored the first run. Allie Ingalls followed with another RBI single and worked her way to third base. She scored as Autumn Boland reached base on a wild pitch on ball four.

Ingalls earned the win as she gave up five runs on five hits with four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.

At the plate, Looft was 2-3 with two RBIs; Ingalls was 1-3 with an RBI; Mathine was 1-3 and Collete Haag, Sara Rolling and Sara Johnson all went 1-3.

Against Spirit Lake, North Union opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with five runs. Looft led off with a single, Rolling and Johnson both reached on errors as one run scored. Jasmine Clausen drew a walk to load the bases. Spirit Lake got one out when Mathine hit the ball back to pitcher Bailee Newman who threw home for the force.

However a double by Allie Ingalls cleared the bases. Cheyanne Boland then laid a perfect bunt between the pitcher and first base for an infield single and RBI.

Spirit Lake got three runs back with a three-run home run by Paige Krause in the top of the third. But North Union scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

The Indians would only get one more run.

Peyton Oleson picked up the win on the mound giving up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

North Union only had five hits. Ingalls was 1-3 with a double and three RBIs; Cheyanne Boland was 1-3 with an RBI; Johnson was 1-1 with an RBI; Autumn Boland was 1-3 and Looft was 1-2. Clausen also had an RBI.

North Union (19-1 overall) continues play at the Spencer Tournament against MOC-Floyd Valley at 11 a.m. The Warriors play Estherville Lincoln Central at 2:30 p.
