Two people are facing charges after a traffic stop early Monday in Estherville.
According to the Estherville Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 200 block of West Central Avenue around 12:20 a.m.
Officers identified the driver of the vehicle as a juvenile. While speaking with the driver, officers were able to smell an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the car. Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, officers located a baggy of suspected marijuana.
A passenger, Elijah Nelson, 18, of Superior, was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance-marijuana. The driver was cited for driving while under suspension and subsequently turned over to his guardian. Nelson was transported to the Emmet County Jail.
