Estherville author and former Emmet County sheriff's deputy Joel Jurrens had a very successful signing for his crime novel, In The Sticks, at Simply Unique at 610 Central Ave. in Estherville Saturday.
The novel tells how Lyle Hoffman, a deputy who has seen more than his share of hard knocks, goes about solving the brutal murder of a beautiful young woman. Meanwhile, Hoffman struggles over the feelings he still has over his failed marriage as a very interesting young woman Hoffman helps in a car accident shows more than a little interest in him.
Jurrens has also completed a Western and is at work on a third novel. His websites are Inthesticks.net and thewritingdeputy.com and his blog is www.thewritingdeputy.wordpress.com.
Jurrens was second in a series of writers holding signings at Simply Unique this summer. The last author of the series will be Rev. Vance Toivonen who will sign his book Reading Jesus, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 10.
Toivonen is pastor at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong.
