GRAETTINGER - Funeral services for Alvin M. Dalen, 82, of Graettinger will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 22 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Interment with full military honors will be held at Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger. He died on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 21 at the church in Graettinger.

Alvin M. Dalen the son of Ingvald and Jeanetta (Malmanger) Dalen was born April 21, 1931 on a farm near Graettinger. He received his education in country schools. Alvin served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Alvin returned home and started working at the Estherville Creamery and that is where he met Bonnie.

On April 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Kleine in Ceylon, Minn. The couple made their home in Estherville and Alvin worked for the Estherville Creamery, City of Estherville and Homestead Housing. Over the years, Alvin enjoyed doing yard work, mowing and helping area farmers. Alvin also enjoyed spending time with family, golfing and fishing.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.

Left to cherish Alvin's memory are his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Traci Akridge; Jill Heinrichs and her husband, Pete all of Graettinger; grandchildren, Miles Heady; Destiny Akridge; Annika Akridge; Emma Heinrichs; Eric Heinrichs; Jayda Wegner and his sister, Agnes Aanonson of Rifle, Colo.

He has been preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, five brothers, Leslie, Einer, Irven, Kenny, Arnold and sister, Clara and two infant sisters.

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Research or the Cancer Society.
