We encourage anyone who can to try to donate at the blood drive 12:30-6 p.m. at the Duhigg Center in Estherville.
One blood donation can save the lives of three people - and has. All too often, though, people think of donating blood during tragedies, like hurricanes or other disasters.
However, donated blood is always needed. And having adequate blood supplies on hand helps expedite getting blood to those who do need it during disasters.
So, please. Consider donating blood.
Sweet Corn Days just around the corner
Just as the Emmet County winds down this weekend, final preparations are under way for Sweet Corn Days Aug. 1-4.
We urge everyone who can to take part in the festivities. You'll find a parade, free sweet corn, food and arts and crafts vendors, fireworks, a street dance and more fun than you shake an ear of sweet corn at.
Sweet Corn Days has been getting bigger and better every year, and we hope you get a chance to share in the fun.
Back to school again
And right after Sweet Corn Days, it's time to prepare for going back to school.
Like always, we urge everyone to shop Estherville first when it comes to your back-to-school shopping.
And when you do plan your shopping, look at the total cost. Sure, maybe you can get a good deal here and maybe save a little sales tax there, but by the time you figure in the cost of gas and your time, Estherville is the best buy you can get.
So shop Estherville - and save.
