Boyer was voted president and Von Bank vice president.
There was some discussion before the board approved an interim superintendent who would serve at least until the third Tuesday of January 2014 when a permanent superintendent could be approved. Board members had to choose between A-R superintendent Matt Berninghaus and Sentral superintendent Art Pixler.
"I've received a lot of phone calls from people from Armstrong expressing their concern about Matt being superintendent instead of Art," Culbertson said.
Von Bank said Berninghaus had the expertise to lead as North Union CEO.
"Matt's impressed me with his ability to do that," Von Bank said, dismissing any notion that she was going to rubber stamp Berninghaus for superintendent merely because he is currently A-R superintendent. "I'm too much of an independent thinker to have someone tell me how to vote," she said. "We (board members) know more about the finances of the district than the general public does."
After approving Berninghaus as interim superintendent, Boyer stressed the need for the board to be proactive and for members to support the board's decisions.
