SPIRIT LAKE - Competing for the first time as just Estherville Lincoln Central, the Midgets still have some work to do to compete with some of the top teams.
ELC placed sixth out of nine teams with 154 points on Tuesday.
"We don't have that frontrunner, but we can pack," said ELC coach Tina Burton. "We just have to move that pack closer to the front."
Senior Heather Natterstad paced ELC with a 23rd place finish I 17 minutes, 12 seconds.
Caressa Franklin finished 26th in 17:23 while Vanessa Blanco placed 28th in 17:25.
"I'm happy with Vanessa's effort-she keeps surprising me," said Burton. "Heather ran a strong race and Caressa did well too."
Rachel Bates finished 34th in 17:42 while Colleen Humble placed 43rd in 18:30 to complete the scoring.
Also Hallie Jensen placed 45th in 18:38 and Taylor Karels placed 53rd in 19:09.
In the junior varsity race, ELC placed seventh with 249 points.
Brianna Enerson placed 19th in 19:05; Hanna Newton placed 32nd in 19:45; Cayli Newton placed 32nd in 21:11; Jerica Walters placed 72nd in 23:01; Emilee Olson placed 73rd in 23:03; Emily Slaughter placed 75th in 24:20 and Melissa Gruwell placed 76th in 24:26.
ELC is at Spencer on Thursday.
The Midgets host their meet next Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Estherville Golf Course.
ELC picked up a second meet next week and will travel to Holstein on Saturday.
