Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Conservation Foundation for putting on a great Pioneer Day last Saturday, Sept. 21. It was a wonderful experience for young and old alike. It's important that we preserve our area history, and even more important to show young people why they need to know and understand the people who built this country.

Thumbs up to the wonderful performers at Gospel on the Square last Saturday. It was a class act, and every person and group playing was absolutely professional.

Thumbs up to Battery C 192nd Field Artillery members who held a reunion last Saturday at the Estherville VFW. May your sacrifice and patriotism be known to all and long outlive you.

Thumbs up to the Black Knights Car Club for putting on a some great drags last Sunday at the Spencer Airport. Their reputation is building, and it's a great one.

Thumbs up to Deb Bahr on her upcoming medical mission trip to Haiti. People like Deb are the glue that hold this world together.

Thumbs up to Demoney and Roosevelt elementary students who gathered over 900 items for the Emmet County food pantry.

Thumbs up to Ed Boucher on getting upgraded to a Silver Star for extraordinary valor during the Korean Conflict. Ed, who had previously received the Bronze Star, led a detachment of Marines and soldiers who carried nine Marines down a mountainside under enemy fire. His Bronze Star was upgraded to Silver, but he did not receive the medal until last week.

Thumbs down to the circumstances that made it take 63 years for Ed to get the medal he deserved.

Thumbs down to anyone who damaged property during ELC homecoming week.
