Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to Bob and Rick Houseman on the great facelift they gave Riverside Sinclair. And by the way, if you don't like to get out of your car to fill up? They have full-service.

Thumbs up to the folks at the new Casey's on Central. It's a great store with lots of new features.

Thumbs up to Ted Kittleson and Billye and Leah Cruz for the wonderful music they played for Good Sam and Rosewood residents last Friday. It was wonderful, old-time country music that everyone could enjoy - a toe-tapping great time.

Thumbs up to our veterans who served our country. Emmet County residents have three opportunities to honor them on Monday: 9 a.m. at the North Union High School gymnasium in Armstrong, 10 a.m. at the Estherville Good Samaritan Society community room and 11 a.m. at the World War I monument in Library Square in Estherville.

Thumbs to the Iowa Lakes Community College music department and music students for hosting a great jazz festival this week. Special thanks have to go to Tony Gulizia, Andy Hall, Joey Gulizia and Brian Loftus who took time from their busy schedules to share their love for jazz with young people.

Thumbs up to Larry Sundall and Mary Devine, winners of two woodburning etchings of the lodge at Fort Defiance State Park. The fundraiser will help the Friends of Fort Defiance continue with their projects in the park.

Thumbs up to artist Mike Watt for creating and donating the woodburnings. His craftsmanship is superb.

Thumbs up to Michael Woods and Emily Bruns, new employees at Brinkman And Reed

CPAs in Estherville. It's wonderful to see young professionals find great jobs in the community.

Thumbs up to the Emmet Historical Society on holding its annual meeting Friday night. This cadre of dedicated volunteers has put together a magnificent museum of which a much-larger community would be deservedly proud. A thumbs up should also go to Bruce Osborne for a great program Friday night.

Thumbs down to Mother Nature for starting the snow season with a storm that takes out power.
