Estherville can be proud of giving

December 13, 2013
Estherville News

To the Editor:

The Estherville community can be extremely proud of the Community Christmas Project which took place December 3, 2013 at Duhigg Center.

Initiated and coordinated by the Estherville Area Ministerial Association, this project served 706 individuals this year, which translates into 413 children, 170 women, and 123 men. This means

706 individuals in Emmet County will have Christmas gifts this year. These individuals may also be assured that their neighbors and friends in Christian love really do care about them and their well-being.

The Estherville Christmas Community Project is a marvelous example of total community cooperation. Volunteers from the various churches of the Ministerial Association spend many days working together, organizing the project, doing the necessary leg work, buying and working with the churches, organizations, merchants, and individuals, as well as the Department of Human Services, and the Upper Des Moines Opportunity. Credit must also be given to the media for publicity, and also to St. Patrick's Catholic Church for donating the Duhigg Center facility for the days of the project. Thank you.

Gifts for the project come from many sources. Individuals contribute gifts through their churches, merchants are very helpful, service and civic organizations participate, and many individuals contribute funds, which are used to purchase any needed gifts that have not already been donated.

This project takes on added meaning each year for many of the volunteers as they seek to continue this tradition of service, which began before 1982, in memory of those volunteers who have helped over the years but are no longer able to participate.

Again, we say thank you to all who were involved in this act of love and generosity in this Christmas season.

Sincerely,

Rev. Doug Burton,

Estherville Area Ministerial Association
