RINGSTED?- Christmas is about family. But for those who have no family or can't get to family on Christmas, what do you do?
For nine years, including this past Christmas, Colleen Kruse of Ringsted has organized a supper that is held Christmas night at the Ringsted Legion/Community Center for residents from ECHO in Estherville and Spirit Lake and also STEP in Fairmont, Minn.
This supper is for residents that have no family around and no place to go for Christmas.
Kruse receives name of the residents and their wish list and then enlists community members from Ringsted and Armstrong to take the names and buy gifts for them.
After everyone eats, Santa Claus makes his appearance and hands outs out the gifts that have been purchased.
This Christmas, approximately 75 people were served-the clients and the caretakers who brought them
While Kruse more names of clients to buy gifts for, they did not all come.
Local people helped prepare the turkey, ham, potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, corn casserole, cranberry salad, fruit salad, relish, and ice cream.
Much of the food is donated or money is donated for the expense of what is needed.
