Volunteer Network brings volunteers together

January 10, 2014
Estherville News

One of the best things to happen in Emmet County in a long time is The Volunteer Network of Emmet County which brings together volunteer groups and the people who need to avail themselves of their services.

The network was funded, in part, through a start-up grant from the Emmet County Community Foundation.

The Volunteer Network works with area nonprofits and public agencies to identify volunteer opportunities. These could include one-time tasks to ongoing programs. Volunteer positions are posted and promoted on the network website at www.volunteeremmetcounty.com

People of all ages use the website to find, learn about and take on volunteer opportunities related to issues that affect their daily lives. The VNEC website also helps businesses, clubs, schools, youth groups and organizations identify group service projects and opportunities for employees, members and students to serve the community through volunteering.

The Volunteer Network is affiliated with the Emmet county RSVP Volunteer Program housed at Iowa Lakes Community Colleges. While RSVP sponsors volunteer opportunities for those 55 and older, the VNEC is for volunteers of all ages.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to go to the website to register and look for volunteer opportunities. Non-profits and public agencies are also asked register and post their volunteer needs.

Anyone who has questions about registering an organization as a Volunteer Network partner may contact Linda Anderson at 712-362-7929 or email her at landerson@iowalakes.edu

The VNEC will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Room 74 at the Iowa Lakes Community College Estherville campus.
