EMMETSBURG - Estherville Lincoln Central fell behind early to Emmetsburg and never could mount a rally as the Midgets lost 62-35 on Friday.
Carson Gjerde had the hot hand for ELC early and the Midgets trailed just 11-7 after her 3-pointer with just over 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
But the E'Hawks went on a 13-2 run to lead 24-9 after the first 8 minutes. ELC scored just two baskets in the second quarter as Emmetsburg stretched its advantage to 40-13 at the break.,

ELC began hitting some shots in the third quarter with 3-pointers by Hallie Jensen, Gjerde and Caitlyn Clayton helping the Midgets make a very small dent in the lead, 52-28.
"It's all about effort," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "Effort leads to good execution."
But ELC couldn't keep up the offense in the final frame.
Gjerde led ELC with 10 points while Clayton finished with nine, Colleen Humble had eight, Rylee Miller had four, Hallie Jensen had three and Cydnie Anderson had one.
Unofficially, ELC had 28 rebounds led by Megan Jensen with seven.
Alexa Naig led the E'Hawks with 15 points.
ELC (0-13 overall, 0-7 in the Lakes) is on the road against Spencer on Tuesday and the Midgets host Storm Lake on Friday.
