Spirit Lake cruises past North Union

Playing on the big stage at the Iowa Lakes Community College gym in Estherville, Spirit Lake and North Union played the nightcap game after the Lakers hosted Kirkwood.

The Indians flourished and jumped out to a 22-3 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 64-24 victory over the Warriors last Saturday.

Billy Brown had the hot hand for Spirit Lake early as he scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the opening frame helping the Indians score the first 19 points. Senior Jacob Braddock ended the Warriors drought with a 3-pointer from the corner.

Brown scored the rest of his points in the second quarter as Spirit Lake built a 35-3 advantage before Nathan Eaton hit a 3-pointer.

Spirit Lake led 41-9 at halftime and 57-15 after three quarters.

For the Indians, Trevor Smith chipped in 16 points while Alec Henrickson had 15. Tyler Alger scored five points with Sam Harms and Logan Backhaus each with three and Caleb Jennings and Alex Prignitz with two apiece.

For North Union, Trent Pedersen and Eaton each had six points, Braddock had five, Aric Runge had three and Dyson Umscheid and Eythan Blair each had two.

Warriors come up short

EMMETSBURG - North Union gave Emmetsburg a good battle, but came up short in a 74-63 loss on Tuesday.

Jacob Braddock and Aric Runge each finished with 15 points to lead the warriors while Alex Krantz finished with 11 and Colin Runksmeier had 10.

Runge also had nine rebounds while Braddock had three assists.

Braden Ortman and Parker Oleson each finished with three points while Trent Pedersen, Corey Vaske and Dyson Umscheid each had two points.

Indians cruise past North

SIOUX CITY - Spirit Lake had no trouble with Sioux City North on Saturday, winning 70-28 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.

The Indians led 24-16 after one quarter and outscored North 26-4 in the second quarter to take a 50-20 lead. The Indians led 64-27 after three quarters.

Bailey Loveall and Emma Dau each scored 15 points to lead the Indians while Joie Veldman chipped in 11. Carly Ites and Bailee Newman each had six points, Mackenzie Thate had five, Jessie Kabele had four, Katy Brevik and Carter Hassel each had three and Kelsey Delperdang had one.

Loveall had seven rebounds while Ites and Dau each had four steals. Abbey Horsman contributed four assists.

SL defeats Generals, 63-50

SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake improved to 8-3 on the season with a 63-50 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan on Monday. The Indians led 15-11 after one quarter, 29-24 at halftime and 48-39 after three quarters.

Bailey Loveall finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Carly Ites chipped in 12 points and had four steals. Emma Dau had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Joie Veldman contributed seven points, Mackenzie Thate had four and Katy Brevik, Bailee Newman, Abbey Horsman and Carter Hassel each had three points.

E'Hawks hold off Warriors, 46-39

ARMSTRONG - Emmetsburg made its free throws down the stretch to defeat North Union 46-39 in a non-conference victory on Monday.

The E'Hawks built a 8-4 lead in the first quarter with the scoring picking up in the second with the E'Hawks leading 18-16 at the break and stretching hte lead to 34-25 after three quarters.

Sarah Rolling led North Union with 14 points. Dena Looft came of the bench to score nine points while Madison Bollig and Aurora Oliver each had five. Peyton Oleson and Alexis Valvick each had three points.
