For the second time this season, Estherville Lincoln Central had to rally against Spirit Lake. And for the second time, a 3-pointer by the Midgets proved to be the difference against the Indians. But this time the win came in regulation

After two timeouts by the Indians, a steal by Justin Heinrichs sealed the ELC victory.

"This was eerily similar to the first game against Spirit Lake," said ELC coach Corey Christopher. "Defensively, we played softer than I think we should have in the first half. But the kids decided they had another gear on defense at halftime."

The Midgets held Spirit Lake to five points in the fourth quarter. Indians' top scorer Alec Henrickson had 27 points through three quarters, including six 3-pointers, but had just two in the final frame.

"That was the best defensive quarter of the year without question," said Christopher. "I could not have been more proud of the effort they gave in the fourth quarter."

ELC started well enough, but trailed 7-5 after Henrickson hit his first 3-pointer of the night.

But the Midgets then when on a 9-0 run with Justin Heinrichs scoring seven straight points including a 3-pointer of his own. A basket by David Hughes gave ELC a 14-7 lead.

ELC got the deficit back to single digits after a 3-pointer by Justin Heinrichs and then a basket by Clay Tredway cut the deficit to five.

Spirit Lake pushed the advantage out to 11 again as Henrickson and Smith both got to the free throw line. But a 3-pointer by Bryce Mann kept the difference to single digits as Spirit Lake led 37-29 at the break.

ELC cut the deficit to five early in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Justin Heirnichs. The teams kept trading baskets until Henrickson hit a layup and then the ELC bench was called for a technical Henrickson made both free throws to push the Indians' advantage back to nine, 47-38. But ELC kept fighting back and cut the deficit to six, 50-44, by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Indians appeared ready to take control early in the final period after a 3-pointer by Brown gave the visitors a 53-46 advantage.

But Justin Heinrichs answered with a 3-poniter and then Hughes scored on a pass from Tredway to cut the deficit to two, 53-51.

Henrickson answered, but ELC scored again. Then an offensive putback by Tredway tied the game at 55-55.

A turnover by the Indians, who had seven in the second half, gave the ball back to ELC with about a minute left in the game.
