Indians run past Midgets, 57-21

Spirit Lake out-scored Estherville Lincoln Central 19-3 in the third quarter as the Indians pulled away from the Midgets to win 57-21 on Friday.

The Midgets' defense had kept them in the game early.

ELC trailed 9-7 after four straight points by Caitlyn Clayton. But a basket by Emma Dau gave the visitors an 11-7 lead after eight quarters.

ELC still trailed by just five, 19-14, with 1 minute left in the first half after two free throws by

Spirit Lake came up with baskets by Emma Dau and Jessie Kabele to lead 23-14.

In the third quarter, the Indians just kept putting the basketball in the bucket, scoring the first 19 points until Megan Jensen hit a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left in the period.

Spirit Lake led 42-17 to start the final frame.

Megan Jensen led ELC with seven points while Caitlyn Clayton had six, Cydnie Anderson had three, Hallie Jensen and Briseida Segura each had two and Colleen Humble had one.

ELC was 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

Bailee Newman led Spirit Lake with 13 points. Dau had 11, Joie Veldman had 10, Carter Hassel had six, Bailey Loveall had five, Katy Brevik and Mackenzie Thate each had three points, Kabele, Macy Smith and Carly Ites each had two points.

ELC (1-16 overall) is at LeMars on Tuesday and home against Western Christian on Friday.

Spirit Lake (13-4 overall) hosts Jackson County Central on Monday, Emmetsburg on Tuesday and travels to Spencer on Friday.

ELC falls to Cherokee

CHEROKEE - Estherville Lincoln Central lost 53-28 to Cherokee on Tuesday.

The Braves jumped out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter, led 30-8 at halftime and 41-19 after three quarters.

Carson Gjerde led ELC with 12 points while Megan Jensen had six and Caitlyn Clayton had four.

Hallie Jensen, Cydnie Anderson and Colleen Humble each had two points.
