Boys Basketball: GTRA prevails over North Union

ARMSTRONG - North Union tried to make a run at Cornbelt leader Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in the second half, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome as the Titans prevails 72-60 last Friday, Jan. 24.

GTRA led 18-14 after one quarter and stretched the advantage to 37-22 by halftime.

However, the Warriors battled to win the second half, but couldn't close the gap.

"We played a much-improved North Union team," said GTRA coach Randy Hough. "We played a very good first half and North Union came back and shot the ball really well in the fourth quarter. I thought our boys played very disciplined basketball in the last 3 minutes of the game."

Connor Sturgill led GTRA with 25 points and nine rebounds. Andy Geelan finished with 14 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Mason McGrauth finished with nine points and three assists. Noah Stukey had seven points and Nick Josephson and Lane Reiman each had three points.

Aric Runge led North Union with 20 points 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Jacob Braddock had 10 points, Colin Runksmeier had nine, Alex Krants had eight, Trent Pedersen and Corey Vaskey each had five, Braden Ortman had two and Kaleb Olson had one.

Geelan records triple-double

RUTHVEN - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire cruised past Corwith-Wesley-Lurverne 70-24 on Tuesday.

Andy Geelan recorded a triple-double of 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Connor Sturgill finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds along with six steals. Mason McGrauth and Noah Stukey each had eight points, Jared Sikora had five, Nick Josephson had three and Taylor Enderson and Lane Reiman each had two points.

The Titans led 16-7 after one quarter, 33-19 at halftime and 54-24 after three quarters before shutting out the Panthers 16-0 in the final frame.

Henrickson scores 28 to lead SL

SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake had big first and third quarters in defeating Cherokee 70-44 on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Indians led 18-5 after one quarter, but just 32-20 at halftime before stretching the lead to 56-30 after three quarters. Alec Henrickson led the Indians with 28 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field including 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. As a team, the Indians were 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.

Trevor Smith tossed in 14 points, Billy Brown had 14, Sam Harms and AJ Shultez each had four points, Alex Pringnitz had three and Austyn Reynolds and Blake Endersen each had two points. Smith had eight rebounds while Pringnitz and Henrickson each had five assists.

Indians fall to No. 1 WC, 74-50

SPIRIT?LAKE?- The Spirit Lake boys dropped to 11-4 on the season with a 74-50 loss to Class 2A No. 1 Western Christian on Tuesday.

Western Christian stretched a 21-15 first-quarter advantage from 21-15 to 43-23 by halftime and led 63-42 after three quarters.

Alec Henrickson and Trevor Smith each scored 20 points for Spirit Lake. Billy Brown had five points and four assists. Caleb Jennings had three points and Alex Pringnitz had two.
