Girls Basketball: North Union defeats CCE, 39-26

EVERLY - The North Union girls improved to 8-4 on the season with a 39-26 win over Clay Central-Everly on Tuesday.

Both teams struggled to score in the first half, but the Warriors led 8-3 after one quarter and 17-7 at halftime. They stretched the lead to 31-15 after three quarters.

Sara Rolling led North Union with 12 points. Peyton Oleson and Aurora Oliver each finished with eight points while Alexis Valvick had six, Madison Bollig had three and Madison Irmiter had two.

Irmiter pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Oleson and Dena Looft each had three steals.

Indians defeat Cherokee, 66-58

SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake girls improved to 12-3 on the season as the Indians rallied to win in the fourth quarter to end up with a 66-58 victory over Cherokee on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Indians trailed 21-14 after one quarter, 38-32 at halftime and 49-43 after three quarters before out-scoring the visitors 23-9 in the final frame.

Emma Dau led the Indians with 18 points while Bailey Loveall had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Mackenzie Thate finished with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Joie Veldman had six points, Abbey Horsman had five, bailee Newman and Carly Ites each had four, Carter Hassel had three and Katy Brevik had one.

The Indians struggled from the free-throw line, making 21-of-38 for the game.

No. 1 Wolfpack rolls past SL

SPIRIT?LAKE - Spirit Lake fell to Class 2A No. 1 Western Christian 85-55 on Tuesday.

The Wolfpack led 19-12 after one quarter, 38-18 after two quarters and 63-40 after three quarters.

Emma Dau led Spirit Lake with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Joie Veldman finished with 12 points and two steals. Bailey Loveall had nine points and six rebounds.. Bailee Neaman and Carter Hassel each had five points. Katy Brevik, Jessie Kabele and Carly Ites each had two points.

Jamie Gesink led Western Christian with 20 points.
