IDA GROVE - Spirit Lake Park placed 11th and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire placed 15th at the Herb Ingrens Invitational last Saturday.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton came out on top in the team standings with 211.5 points. Spirit Lake Park finished with 84 points while GTRA had 61.
Skopec leads Indians' effort
Zach Skopec, ranked second at 145 pounds, paced the Indians with a first-place finish. He pinned his way through the first three rounds before edging fifth-ranked Steven Garcia of Sergeant Bluff-Luton 1-0 in the finals.
Kenten Murray, ranked 10th at 152 pounds, finished in second place. Murray needed a 6-5 decision over Woodbury Central's Gable Verschoor to make the finals. But Sergeant Bluff-Luton's Brett Tomoson, ranked fifth in Class 2A, pinned Murray in 3:22.
Gavin Kramer (120) finished fourth overall. While Justin Jones (170) placed eighth.
Thompson paces Titans
Cody Thompson (285) led GTRA's efforts at the two-day tournament. Thompson, ranked sixth in Class 1A, lost by fall to South Central Calhoun's Aron King but came back with pins in his final two matches to place third.
Ty Gibson (138), ranked seventh, lost his third match 6-5 to Don Bosco's Chris Paulsen and then ended up losing his final two matches by decision as he placed sixth.
Also placing sixth was teammate Alex Hoffman (132).
No other Titan placed, but Matt McGrauth (170), Kodi Ferguson (182) and Nate Harris (195) all posted 3-2 records for the tournament.
