SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake girls picked up two more wins this past week as they defeated Jackson County Central, 69-62, on Monday and Emmetsburg, 58-44, on Tuesday.
Against the Huskies, Spirit Lake trailed 16-14 after one quarter, but led 35-29 at halftime and 45-44 after three quarters.
Emma Dau finished with 30 points, shooting 12-of-20 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. She also had a team-high 16 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
Joie Veldman chipped in 10 points while Bailee Newman, Abbey Horsman and Bailey Loveall each had seven points, Katy Brevik had five and Carter Hassel had three.
Against Emmetsburg, Spirit Lake again trailed in the first quarter, 9-8, but led 24-18 at halftime and 42-32 after three quarters.
Dau led the way again with 16 points and five assists while Veldman had 15 points. Newman and Mackenzie Thate each had seven points, Brevik had six, Loveall had four and Hassel had three.
Spirit Lake (15-4 overall) was at Spencer on Friday before en ding the regular season on Tuesday against LeMars.
Indians pull away in fourth quarter
SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake boys improved to 12-5 on the season with a 54-42 win over Emmetsburg on Tuesday.
The Indians led 16-10 after the first quarter and both teams scored just six points in the second with Spirit Lake leading 22-16 at halftime. Emmetsburg cut into the lead in the third quarter, but the Indians led 40-37 to start the final frame and limited the E'Hawks to just five more points.
Alec Henrickson led the Indians with 22 points and seven rebounds. Billy Brown finished with 13 points and five steals. Trevor Smith had nine points and Sam Harms and Caleb Jennings each had four and Alex Pringnitz had two. Jennings finished with four assists.
Spirit Lake was at Spencer on Friday. The Indians host LeMars on Tuesday.
