Black Knights plan Senders dance, car show

Event is March 15

By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville News

Black Knights Car Club members Tuesday night made plans for their upcoming dance with The Senders March 15 and the annual Sweet Corn Days car show.

The Senders will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Elks Lodge in Estherville. Advanced tickets are $10 and are available from any Black Knights member or e-mail president Rod Ross at blackknights@yourstarnet.net.

Matt Stine, cruise-in chair, said registration for the Sweet Corn Days car show could be held at his business, the American Muscle parking lot at Eighth and Central. The car show, which was previously along North Sixth Street and Second Avenue North, has to relocate to make room for other Sweet Corn Days events. The new area would be on Eighth Street between Central and Second Avenue North and on First Avenue North from Ninth Street to the alley between Seventh and Eighth streets. Stine said relocating a couple blocks east would give more shade and that the Sweet Corn Days Committee liked the idea.

"When it was suggested you were moving it, we were all in favor of that," said club member and Sweet Corn Days Committee member Tom Inman, adding that the committee hoped to eventually use the area from Fifth to Ninth streets and from Central to Second Avenue North for events. He said two other events would be taking over the space previously used for the car show.

"We'd be very happy to do whatever you guys want," Inman said.

Members approved the move and also previewed the Spectacular Cars event, sponsored by the Black Knights and Okoboji Classic Cars Saturday and Sunday Aug. 16-17 at Okoboji Classic Car Museum on Highway 86 at West Okoboji.

A cruise-in will also be held the Friday night of Sweet Corn Days on North Sixth Street.

Ross said the club is now listed with three national car club organizations. He also reminded members of the Old Iron Garage Tour Feb. 15.

Ross said he was also working on a bus trip to Thunder Valley Dragways at Marian, S.D.
