Hope Haven staff tells about mental-health services

February 7, 2014
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville News

April Metzer, Hope Haven manager of mental health services, and Amanda Olson, mental-health therapist, told Estherville Rotarians Thursday about services the agency now offers in Estherville.

Hope Haven's office is located in Estherville Lutheran Church at 208 N. Eighth St. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and appointments may be made by calling (712) 852-3101.

Metzger said the Rock Valley-based agency has expanded its services and is partnering with other agencies.

"We are an agency that always looks for new things to do," Metzger said, listing Compass Pointe Behavior Health Services is one of its partners.

Among the services Hope Haven offers are behavioral-health intervention services for children, including intervention services, anger management, stress management and communication and interpersonal therapy. They also have community support services for adults 18 and over.

Another service is Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PICT) offered at their Spencer, Milford and Emmetsburg offices. In a PICT session, the parent and child will interact on one room with the parent wearing ear buds so the therapist can cue suggestions to the parent. That way, a bond is made between the parent and child, rather than therapist and child, Metzger said.

Metzger said Hope Haven handles private insurance, hawk-i insurance for children and Title XIX.
