A three-sport athlete in high school, Estherville Lincoln Central senior Joe Heinrichs will continue competing in two of them after graduation.
On Monday, Heinrichs signed to play football and run track at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.
Heinrichs was the top receiver for ELC in 2013, catching 36 passes for 494 yards and four touchdowns.
Briar Cliff defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator said the football staff is working at doing a better job recruiting athletes and Heinrichs fits the bill.
"We want to continue to build our brand in Northwest Iowa," he said. "Joe is a multi-sport guy, so we know he's an athlete."
Heinrichs is one of 27 recruits signed so far by Briar Cliff. He is one of six wide receiver recruits.
Heinrichs will likely continue his role as a receiver at Briar Cliff as football staff will work to build his strength in the weight room.
Briar Cliff track coach Reggie Miller said Heinrichs will fit well with the school's middle distance runners-competing in both 400 and 800 events.
Heinrichs helped both the ELC 4x800-meter and the medley relays qualify for state as a junior in 2013.
