NEWELL - With a 13-game wining streak in the middle of the season, the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys have gone through a tough stretch the final five games.

On Friday, the Titans wrapped up the regular season taking on Class 1A top-ranked Newell-Fonda.

The Mustangs got out to a fast start and kept the pressure on throughout the night on the way to a 75-57 victory.

Of more concern to GT/RA is the potential loss of sophomore starter Noah Stukey, who went down with a possible hip or leg injury with 5 minutes left in the game. Play halted for several minutes before emergency personnel arrived to take him off the court.

The game did not start well for the Titans either. GT/RA was called for a charge on the first play and coach Randy Hough received a technical. While Newell-Fonda made both free throws, they didn't score on their ensuing possession. However a steal led to an layup as they led 4-0.

The Titans got on the boar with a three-point play by Andy Geelan, but the visitors still trailed 9-6 after a three-point play by Connor Sturgill..

The host scored the next seven points, but the Titans battled back to within four at 18-14 after a basket by Nick Josephson. A 12-3 run to end the period gave the hosts a 30-17 lead.

Newell-Fonda kept up the pressure and threatened to run away with the game with a 10-0 run to start the second quarter. The Titans limited the Mustangs to just two points the rest of the half, but could only get the deficit to 15, 42-27.

GT/RA still struggled to close the gap in the third quarter. At one point, the Titans traded 3-pointers for two as Josephson and Stukey both hit from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to 53-40. Again, Newell-Fonda responded and ended the period with an 8-0 run to lead 61-40.

Andy Geelan led GT/Ra with 18 points and five rebounds while Connor Sturgill finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Josephson had 10 points, Lane Reiman had seven, Stukey had six, Taylor Enderson had two and Mason McGrauth had one.

Unofficially, the Titans had 23 turnovers.

Dalton Anderson led Newell-Fonda with 22 points and Brady Bohe had 16 as the Mustangs wrapped up a perfect regular season in 21 games.

GT/RA finishes the final five games of the season at 2-3 as they wrap up a 16-4 campaign. The Titans open Class 1A tournament play at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20 at Boyden-Hull High School where they will take on the winner of Monday's game between George-Little Rock and Akron-Westfield.
