The Estherville Lincoln Central Board of Education Monday heard about plans for implementing one-to-one technology for students in the classroom.

High-school principal Frank Christenson said staff were in the process of determining which device would work best. He said next November staff will be provided with devices so they're a step ahead of students who will receive them starting with the 2015-16 school year. Possible options include iPads, Chrome Books and Net Pads.

Cost of the devices could range from $400,000 to $650,000 a year, depending on which is chosen.

Christenson said he is also in the early stages of scheduling classes for next year.

Assistant high-school principal and activities director Brad Leonard said the jazz band had earned a wild card in the jazz championships and will find out the third week of March whether they're going. He said the jazz band had earned an excellent at the state jazz contest.

Leonard said the one-act play cast was one of eight in Iowa chosen to perform at All-State at Iowa State University. He also said the wrestlers had won the district meet for the first time in memory.

Leonard said Rich Jordet was also starting up a trap shooting. "We're trying to start up something for every kid," he said.

Christenson said Kris Turner and Laura Condon had applied for a robotics grant and gone on a trip with students.

The board held final reading of board policies 404-406.6 and set a public hearing for the 2014-15 budget for 5:10 p.m. March 17. Voters voted a 34-cent increase in the physical plant and equipment levy to $1.34 which Superintendent Tara Paul said would be incorporated into the next budget.

The board also approved the resignation of Jodie Greig and appointment of Kathy Cornwall to the building committee.

Ebony Rahe of Williams & Company reviewed the annual budget with the board.
