Ramirez places second, ELC boys advance

Estherville Lincoln Central's Oscar Ramirez ended his career with a second-place finish in the Class 2A 132-pound bracket on Saturday.

Also Saturday, the ELC boys' basketball team advanced to the district finals with a 76-62 victory over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. The Midgets will take on top-ranked Western Christian at 7 p.m., Tuesday in Spencer.

In other wrestling action, Spirit Lake Park's Zach Skopec won a state title in Class 2A at 145 pounds.

In other basketball action, the Spirit Lake girls lost 55-35 to Unity Christian in a region final in Sheldon.

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys basketball team survived a last second shot by George-Little Rock to win 62-61. The Titans will take on Boyden-Hull in Sheldon at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
