County has year without lost-time accident

Apparently, Emmet County's emphasis on safety in the secondary roads department is going to pay off in a big way - most obviously the next time it pays its Workers Comp premium.

Board chair Alan Madden told the supervisors Tuesday it has been 369 days since the county had a lost-time accident.

"I think it's a direct result of a more sophisticated approach to safety and safety meetings," said Madden.

When the board met later with Dan Burton, assistant to the Emmet County engineer who gave the road report, Madden said he would like to have a recognition of employees for their excellent safety record.

"It is a big deal. It is kind of historic for Emmet County," Madden said.
