Construction could begin this spring on an new-assisted living facility in Estherville.
At its regular meeting on Monday, the Estherville City Council approved the volunteer annexation of 23 acres of land located northeast of the city.
Kevin Ward of HR Green said his company plans to purchase 4.6 of those acres for the 40-unit facility, which will be called Windsor Manor.
Ward said the plan is for 30 units of assisted living and 10 units of memory care. This will be the ninth unit for the for-profit company.
"We just completed a facility in Algona last summer and we're looking at Estherville as our next project," said Green. "Our company designs, builds and owns assisted living facilities."
Since it a state-certified facility, Green said there will be a lot of inspections during construction. The facility is expected to cost approximately $5 million to build.
Green said plans are to begin construction May first and open the facility around the first of next year.
He expects seven full-time employees to start with seven part-time employees.
Council's approval of the annexation was pending receipt of trust documents.
