The Iowa Lakes baseball team dropped its first four region games as they were swept by Southeastern in doubleheaders last Saturday and Sunday. The Blackhawks won by scores of 8-2, 4-0, 2-0 and 5-1.
In the first game, Iowa Lakes' Pat Gough was 2-4 and the Lakers mustered just five hits. Kyle Thomas got the start and gave up eight runs (five earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Matthew Vazquez pitched an inning and Alex Cristobal struck out three in three innings of work.
Both teams had just three hits in the second contest, but the Lakers were unable to push a run across the plate as they struck out 11 times.
Ryan Mose pitched five innings in the loss, giving up two earned runs on one hit with three strikeouts and six walks. Austin Smith pitched an inning and gave up two earned runs on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
On Sunday, Jesus Brito pitched eight innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout and three walks. The Lakers also only had two hits in the contest, but struck out just four times while drawing five walks. Defensively, Iowa Lakes had four errors.
In the final contest of the series, each team again had four hits with Southeastern again able to push runs across. Manny Deleon took the loss as the gave up five runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings on two hits with one strikeout and six walks. Paul Howarth was 2-2 at the plate.
Iowa Lakes is scheduled for a four-game series against Des Moines Area Community College in Boone this weekend.
