Midgets post 4-0 record in first week

Oleson medals for North Union

The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Golf team improved their record to 4-0 Thursday, picking up victories over Algona and North Union in a triangular held at the Estherville Golf Course.

ELC shot a 173, Algona a 189 and North Union a 205.

Parker Oleson of North Union was the meet medalist with a 38.

Runner-up medalist was ELC's Chris Seylar with a 41.

"Chris had a very solid round and is hitting the ball very well, so it was great to see that effort rewarded with a runner-up medalist finish," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel.

Other scores for ELC: Jack Brashear 43, Corey Reeves 44 and Alec Wycoff 45. Non- counting scores were Clay Tredway 46, and Hunter King with 49.

"While it's great to be 4-0 as a team, we still have plenty of room for improvement," said coach Van Roekel. "We really will be focusing on the mental approach to scoring over the next week, as this group is very capable of being around 160 as a team."

Other scores for North Union were Nathan Eaton with a 45, Tyler Quinn with a 59 and Jacob Braddock with a 63.

In junior varsity play, Algona edged ELC 219-221.

Jake Bortvit was medalist with a 45. Chase Erickson shot a 57, Reese Vedder a 59 and Zach Edwards a 60.

Reeves medals at Garrigan meet

SPRING VALLEY - The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Golf Team had a good start to the 2014 season, winning a meet hosted by Bishop Garrigan at the Spring Valley Golf Course on Tuesday.

Led by medalist Corey Reeves, the Midgets carded a 176, beating host Garrigan by six strokes as the Bears finished with a 182. North Iowa Shot a 215.

Reeves shot a 43 and held the tiebreaker against Garrigan's Jess Marlow.

Other ELC scores were 44s by Jack Brashear and Chris Seylar and a 45 by Alec Wycoff.

Non-counting scores were Hunter King with a 48 and Clay Tredway with a 50.

"While I'm very happy with the preparation all 16 student-athletes have given to the golf team this spring, more work lays ahead of us to get to where we want to be in the next 30 days or so," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel.
