Cherokee too much for ELC

April 11, 2014
By David Swartz - Managing Editor , Estherville News

In spite of Estherville Lincoln Central's four seniors, the Midgets could do little against a Cherokee team that returned its entire lineup from a year ago.

ELC's only win in the 8-1 loss to the Braves came at the No. 3 singles where John Reisner won 10-1.

Tim Soper had a close match at the NO. 4 singles, but lost 11-9. Reisner and Soper then lost 10-8 in doubles.

In other singles play, Thomas Bortvit lost 10-4, Levi Jensen lost 10-4, drew Condon lost 10-5 and Kyle Marks lost 10-0.

In doubles, Bortvit and Jensen lost 10-5 and Condon and Marks lost 10-1.

In junior varsity play, ELC was unable to come up with any wins.

In singles, Alex Murillo lost 8-1, Jaced Hobmeier lost 8-2, Jose Rodriguez lost 84-, Koby Schubert lost 8-0, Austin Wedebrand lost 8-5 and Jose Saavedra lost 8-6.

In doubles, Murillo and Hobmeier lost 8-3, Rodriguez and Schubert lost 8-0 and Wedebrand and Saavedra lost 8-6.

In exhibition singles, Toby Jensen lost 4-1, Eli Gonzalez lost 4-0, Hunter Komelien lost 4-0 and Matthew Mustard lost 4-0. In doubles, Jensen and Gonzalez lost 6-0 and Kompelien and Mustard lost 6-0.
