A Wisconsin tire company will come to Estherville and park a new original equipment tire mounting operation in the city's industrial park. Pomp's Tire, headquartered in Green Bay, is expected to start its operation this summer in the 30,000-square-foot industrial speculative building owned by the Estherville Industrial Development Corporation.
A spokesman for the company, David Smith, who is the Original Equipment Division manager for Pomp's Tire, states the company is excited to become part of the Estherville community. From here, he says the company will be able to serve recently acquired and solicit new customers locally as well as in the multi-state region around Estherville.
Initially, Pomp's Tire will hire 5-6 employees to handle the needs of a recently acquired customer. Smith says over the course of the next couple years, Pomp's Tire hopes to expand both the facility and the number of employees as new customers are secured.
The building is the fifth speculative building constructed by EIDC. Alan Blum, EIDC chairman, recalled that the local development group had showed the spec building to a wide variety of prospects over the years, ranging from a hatchery to a truck engine manufacturer to an upscale manufactured home company, and many others. Blum says he looks forward to Pomp's Tire occupying the building and what it will grow into.
During the past 10 years trying to find a company to locate in the spec building, EIDC President Lyle Hevern, says it relied on its partners to help find the right company.
The Iowa Area Development Group located in West Des Moines, is one of those valued partners. Bruce Hansen, Vice President of Business Development for IADG, brought Pomp's Tire to Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative in Estherville, another one of our valued partners, Hevern said. Iowa Lake's Jed Skogerboe then got EIDC involved to close the deal.
Blum expresses the group's appreciation to ILEC and to local businessperson Steve Christensen, who helped finance the construction of the spec building. Blum said both ILEC and Christensen waived principal and interest payments for the first five years. And both agreed to waive current interest that was due to help land the tire company.
The City of Estherville will provide a 3-year, 100 percent property tax rebate to Pomp's Tire as an incentive to locate here.
