OKOBOJI - The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Golf Team did well in its second trip within the past week to Brooks Golf Course on Thursday.
While host Spirit Lake won the four-team meet with a 164, ELC finished second with 169 while LeMars shot 183 and Harris-Lake Park a 184.
"I am extremely pleased with this effort," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. "Nobody complained about the weather, they just went out and did the best they could."
ELC improves to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the Lakes Conference in dual competition.
Spirit Lake's Zach Skopec was meet medalist with a 37. Corey Reeves led ELC with a 39 while Jack Brashear and Chris Seylar each shot 42. ELC had a choice of 46s from Alec Wycoff and Hunter King for the final counting score. Also Jake Bortvit shot a 51.
"It was a really nice round from Corey after struggling the last few times out," said Van Roekel. "Jack and Chris have been a model of consistency even when not playing their best, learning how to score is such a big deal when you are not hitting it like you want."
For the Indians, Trevor Caldwell was runner-up medalist with a 38, Jack Bauermeister shot a 42 and Drew Fowler a 47. Non-counting scores were a 48 by Grant Schuchert and a 50 by Jake Heitritter.
Iowa Great Lakes Invitational
At the Iowa Great Lakes Invitational last Saturday, ELC came in with an 18-hole score of 349. Jack Brashear and Chris Seylar each carded 82s while Corey Reeves shot a 93 and Alec Wycoff a 93. Non-counting scores were a 94 by Hunter King and a 97 by Clay Tredway.
Sprit Lake finished second with a 333 behind Spencer's 327.
Corey Potter led the Indians with a 75 while Trevor Caldwell shot an 81, Zach Skopec an 82 and Alex Pringnitz a 95. Non-counting scores were a 99 by Drew Fowler and a 106 by Grant Schuchert.
The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys golf team finished third in Division 2 at the Iowa Great Lakes Invitational last Saturday.
The Titans finished with a 389.
"It was a windy day out today and Brooks is the toughest course we have played this year," said GT/RA coach John Fulton. "It was a good experience for the guys to get out and play with some good teams on a great course. We will use this experience moving forward."
Ethan Petersen led the team with a 95 while Kyle Dalen shot a 96, Josh Petrich a 98 and Jake Wegner a 100. Non-counting scores were a 103 by Nate Harris and a 115 by Nick Josephson.
