OKOBOJI - The Estherville Lincoln Central boys' tennis team had a tough draw in Class 1A postseason play.

While seniors Levi Jensen and Thomas Bortvit were able to pull out a first-round victory over Storm Lake, the win earned them the right to play the district's top seeded duo from Cherokee.

Jensen and Bortvit started the day with a win 6-4, 6-1 victory over Caleb Hinners and Tanner Hoops from Storm Lake.

But in the second round, Cherokee's Brett Walker and Alec Schultz won 6-1, 6-3.

"It was nice to see Levi and Thomas get a win," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "But we had some tough draws today.

Two other ELC seniors, John Reisner and Tim Soper, drew the No. 3 seeded doubles team from Spencer. The Tiger duo of Brady Plueger and Eduardo Tavani won 6-1, 6-0.

In singles play, senior Colten Christensen lost to Storm Lake's Brett DeWerff 6-1, 6-1 and Drew Condon lost 6-0, 6-0 to Thomas Havey from LeMars.

Of the 16 players out for tennis this year, seven of them were seniors.

"It's been an enjoyable season," said Klein. "I wish the seniors could've got a few more wins in. We had some great practices, but sometimes struggled to get meets in."

The ELC boys' team may play one more rescheduled meet against Spencer next week.
