Midgets off to 6-0 start

Christensen’s triple scores go-ahead run

STORM LAKE - Estherville Lincoln Central earned its sixth straight win as the Midgets broke a 4-4 tie late in the game against Storm Lake to win 6-4 on Friday.

ELC scored in the sixth when Corey Reeves hit a two-out single. Blake Gjerde came in to run for Reeves, stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch. A triple by Dan Christensen brought in the go-ahead run.

ELC added an insurance run in the seventh. Billy Snyder reached on a fielder's choice after Alec Wycoff had led off the inning with a single. Snyder stole second. With two outs, Carsten Bosch hit a ball that was booted by the second baseman, allowing Snyder to score.

Tim Greving pitched 3 1/3 innings as he gave up three unearned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Bosch closed out the game as he earned his first varsity win. He gave up one earned run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.

"Carsten came in and threw well for his first varsity win," said ELC coach Lee Evans. "He attacked their hitters and held them to one run to give us a chance."

At the plate, Christensen went 2-2 with an RBI while Alec Wycoff also went 2-4.

Greving finished 1-2 with an EBI while Reeves was 1-3 and Riley Strenge, Austin Egeland and Bosch each went 1-4.

"We came ready to play," said Evans.

ELC (6-0 overall, 2-0 in the Lakes Conference) travels to the Humboldt Tournament today.

In junior varsity play, ELC defeated Storm Lake 6-3.

Alex Miller pitched two innings and gave up three earned runs while striking out three and walking nine. Hunter King pitched two innings and struck out four batters.

At the plate, Evan Olesen was 2-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Chase Bonner was 1-1 with an RBI while Jacob Bosch and Miller each went 1-2. Miller had an RBI and a stolen base.

ELC freshmen

In freshmen ball, ELC won 9-4.

Lucas Gardner pitched three innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Hunter Wheatley pitched the final inning and faced four batters, striking out three.

At the plate, Gardner was 2-3 with two RBIs and a double. Trevor Shryock was also 2-3 with two RBIs. Isaac Johnson was 1-2 with an RBI while Jacob Bosch, Trevor Friesner and Michael Houseman each went 1-3.
