Thumbs up, thumbs down

June 6, 2014
Estherville News

Thumbs up to Christian Motorcyclists Association members for holding worship services with Estherville Good Samaritan Society residents last Sunday. The CMA does a lot of wonderful things, and this is an excellent example of how they go out of their way to help brighten people's lives.

Thumbs up to Elaine Jacobsen for having the June Yard of the Month. Thumbs up as well to the Estherville Garden Club for hosting this great program that gives recognition to people for beautifying their property.

Thumbs up to Estherville Red Power, formerly Estherville Implement, as it works to help farmers be more productive. Thumbs up as well to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce for holding a ribbon cutting there Wednesday.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Lincoln Central Board of Education and Estherville Lincoln Central Education Association on reaching an agreement approved Wednesday. These two groups are charged with providing the best possible education for our students at the best possible price. It's a hard job, but they've done it.

Thumbs up to all the teams participating in the Emmet County Relay for Life today in Library Square. Once again, Emmet County is showing how everyone can raise money for a great cause and have loads of fun at the same time.

Thumbs down to those who blow their lawn clippings out onto the street. There's a simple solution to this. Blow your grass onto your lawn instead of off it for the first three passes, then go the other way. Street crews will appreciate it as will people who don't want to get flooded out during the next downpour when storm drains plug up.

Thumbs up to our veterans who fought in D-Day and World War II. They made a difference not only in American history, but in the course of civilization. This Sunday, please offer a prayer in their memory.

Thumbs up to the Black Knights Car Club for putting on a great cruise-in Friday night. The Knights also deserve a big thumbs up for all the good causes they've helped with over the years. Next year will make 60 years since the original Black Knights Car Club was formed, and the club still has some of those same members!
