Thumbs up, thumbs down

Estherville News

Thumbs up to the City of Estherville Parks & Rec Department and Estherville taxpayers for putting up new modern restroom facilities and small shelter at Lincoln Park. This will make the park much more comfortable for people who use it. Look for park use to increase even more after this!

Thumbs up to the Black Knights Car Club for a great cruise-in last Friday night. Look for them again at the Spencer Airport when they sponsor drags during Flag Fest this coming Saturday. They'll hold their regular drags again in September.

Thumbs up to Emmet County residents who raised $88,264 at this year's Relay For Life. Everyone had a wonderful time, with all the great entertainment, and we can be sure of having another great Relay next year.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Garden Club which held its annual flower show Wednesday at the Estherville Good Samaritan Society. This is a fantastic venue because it allows residents to see the show.

Thumbs up to The Headliners for the free concert Wednesday night at the Thoreson Shelter. They put on a great jazz camp and also played at several venues around the Lakes area.

Congratulations to all the vendors who took part in the first Downtown Market Thursday night in Library Square. Thumbs up as well to Billie James who gave a wonderful performance. What a great way to start the market!

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Nature Center and naturalist Jenna Pollock on holding a great paddle clinic 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nature Center. This was a great way to introduce local residents to the joys of paddling.

Thumbs up to the Emmet County Historical Society Museum on its 50th anniversary celebration going on from noon to 5 p.m. today. Can you believe that this museum was built by donations and volunteer labor? How fantastic!

Thumbs up to the Friends of Fort Defiance for sponsoring a trail walk this coming Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. If you haven't been on the Whitetail Ridge Interpretive Trail yet, this is your chance.

Thumbs up to the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors as they plan their annual golf outing for next Tuesday at the Estherville Golf Course.
