SPENCER - Two games, two shutouts for Class 2A No. 7 North Union was a good way to start the Spencer Tournament on Friday.

The Warriors started the day with a 5-0 win over Denison-Schleswig and followed it up with a 3-0 over current Lakes Conference leader Spirit Lake.

North Union scored immediately against the Monarchs as Kyarsten Mullen drew a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Autumn Boland and scored on a single by Sarah Rolling.

In the fourth inning, Dena Looft led off with a double with Rolling reaching on an error while the first run came home. Breanna Anderson then singled in another run and scored on a single by Erica Anderson.

The Warriors added an insurance run in the fifth as Mullen was hit by a pitch and sacrificed by both Boland and Looft to third and scored on a triple by Rolling.

Peyton Oleson earned the win on the mound as she struck out five and walked none.

Against Spirit Lake, the junior ace also earned the win as she struck out three and hit one batter.

North Union scored its first run in the fourth. Rolling had reached on a fielder's choice after Looft had led off the inning with a double. Rolling scored on a single by Anna Ingalls.

In the fifth inning, Boland led off with a triple and scored on a single by Looft.

The last run came when Breanna Anderson reached on an error with Ingalls laying down the sacrifice bunt to move her to second. Erica Anderson's single completed the scoring for the game.

North Union (21-5) is scheduled to play Estherville Lincoln Central and LeMars today at the Spencer Tournament. The Warriors are home Monday for a doubleheader against Harris-Lake Park.
