GILMORE CITY - Shutting out North Union is a rare occurrence. West Bend-Mallard accomplished that feat twice on Monday, winning 1-0 and 6-0 over the Warriors.
The Wolverines' Jason Zinnel pitched a no-hitter while striking out 12 batters and walking two in the first game.
Corey Vaske took the loss for the Warriors as he gave up one run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
North Union's best chance to score came in the first inning as Cody Runksmeier drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a wild pitch. No other player made it past second base.
Jesse Zinnel pitched the second shutout for West Bend-Mallard. He struck out 11 batters while giving up three its and two walks.
Colin Runksmeier took the loss for North Union. Only four of the six runs were earned. Runksmeier struck out three batters while giving up seven hits and two walks.
The Warriors' best chance to score came in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a Wolverine error. But a strikeout and groundout ended the threat.
Spencer Ricke, Alex Krantz and Parker Oleson each were 1-3 for North Union.
