Sharon K. Long - Jones - Grothe

Sharon K. Long - Jones - Grothe, age 54, passed away on May 10, 2014 at the Griffin Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa. She was born Feb. 2, 1960 and was the youngest child of Rex and Maxine (McAllister) Long who were life-long residents of Ottumwa, Iowa. Sharon and her family attended, and were members of, the Willard Street United Methodist Church.

Sharon was born, grew up and lived most of her life in Ottumwa, but her high school years were spent attending Estherville High School in Estherville, Iowa where her parents lived for a short time.

She is survived by her only child Megan (Cody) Blaine of Ottumwa; a brother Steve (Rhonda) Long and their daughters Jenny (Ben) Clayton and Cheryl (Josh) Russell; a sister Sandra (Rick) Whitmore and her daughter, Erica (Michael) Martin. Sharon is also survived by her first husband, Megan's father, Randy Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband of 10 years, Andy Grothe, on Feb. 9, 2012.

Sharon's family would like to thank the Griffin Nursing and Rehab Center for her final days of care. In particular, they would like to extend their gratitude and special thanks to Barb VanGorp RN, CHPN. Her attentiveness to Sharon, and the Hospice Care Service that was given, were immeasurable.

The family would also like to thank her in home health care givers Brenda Schnoor, Kathy Christy and Kim Grothe. Their faithful care, compassion, dedication, and friendship to Sharon will be everlasting. Were it not for them, Sharon's past few years may not have been possible.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Willard Street United Methodist Church. Also, a Remembrance Celebration will follow at 4 p.m. in the Mezzanine at the Hotel Ottumwa. Both of these event locations are in Ottumwa.

Sharon's family welcomes your attendance. They would like to reach out to past friends and family members that they have lost touch with to please join them at these celebrations.
