In a July 1 filing, Jose Luis Aguilar Olvera of Armstrong was found guilty in a bench trial of sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl.

In the verdict handed down by Third Judicial District Judge Carl J. Petersen, Olvera was found guilty of one count of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree and of a second count of Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree. Olvera had waived his right to a jury trial.

Emmet County Assistant County Attorney Rosalise Olson and Assistant Iowa Attorney General Denise Timmins prosecuted the case. Olvera was defended by public defender Gregory Jones.

The victim, now age 8, testified to three instances of sexual contact with Olvera between Nov. 7, 2011 and Dec. 2, 2012.

Sentencing is pending communication with counsel.
