BOYDEN - Spirit Lake came up with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh as the Indians got past Class 3A No. 7 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Friday.

Down 2-1, Kelsey Delperdang singled and went to second on an error by the Nighthawks. Paige Petersen laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to second.

Spirit Lake was down to its last out after Kayla Herrig stroke out, but Bailee Newman's double to right field brought home the tying run.

Newman stole third on a ball that just got away a little bit from catcher Alexis Mousel.

Caitlyn Roberts worked deep into the count before hitting the RBI single that brought Newman home for the Indians' 3-2 victory.

The win propels Spirit Lake (22-8) into Monday's Class 3A Region final against No. 14-ranked Osage (25-3), a 7-1 winner over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Friday. That game is scheduled to be played in Emmetsburg at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (21-3) got on the board first when Kensy VandeHoef hit a leadoff single, went to second on the sacrifice bunt by Sam Blum and scored on a two-out double by CJ Van Der Zwaag.

The Indians answered right back as Newman led off the bottom of the first with a home run.

That was the score until the fifth inning when Katie Greene led off the inning with a double for the Nighthawks. A sacrifice bunt by Mousel moved her to third and a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag scored the run.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley missed a chance to added to their lead in the sixth inning after a leadoff single and a walk to Blum put runners at first and second. Both were left stranded as Newman struck out CJ Van Der Zwagg, Courtney Schafer popped up into the infield and Allie Treinen also went down on strikes.

Newman earned the win as she struck out 10 and walked one while giving up five hits.

CJ Van Der Zwaag struck out three and walked one.

The Indians finished with seven hits with Newman going 3-4 with two RBIs while Roberts was 1-4 with an RBI.
