GRAETTINGER - Robert "Bob" Sampson was born Sept. 11, 1934, the son of Arnold and Mildred (Fox) Sampson in Emmetsburg. He attended country school and attended Graettinger High School. On Sept. 21, 1954, Bob was united in marriage to Norma Hempstead in Jackson, Minn.
The couple made their home in Graettinger, and Bob worked at John Morrell for 34 years retiring in 1983. During retirement, he liked to keep busy, and he worked part-time at Roy's Service and Gary's Gas and Go. Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Nelson-Christensen American Legion Post #162.
Bob was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, and loved to take in games with his sons. He loved all sports, and closely followed the Hawkeyes, Braves, Colts and the local area high school teams. Bob was an avid newspaper reader, and enjoyed his morning coffee, newspaper and listening to the radio. He and Norma enjoyed camping and spending the winters in McAllen, Texas. Most of all, Bob loved his family, and he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities.
