Emmet County Fair features full slate of events

There's lots of family fun at 146th Emmet County Fair Thursday through Sunday July 24-27 at the Emmet County Fairgrounds in Estherville.

Events start Thursday morning at 8 with the flag raising and 4-H static exhibit judging. Also scheduled for 8 are acceptance of coloring contest entries at the fair office and Emmet County Historical Society antique tractor and farm entries in the Swan Lake building. The horse show starts at 12:30 in the Arena followed by the sheep and goat show with showmanship at 3:30 in the Iowa Showbarn.

The Emmet County Farm Bureau picnic for members only will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Eagle Lake Building. The fashion show and fair queen contest will be held at 7:30 in the Ingham Lake building with the lowering of the flag at 9.

Friday events start with the swine show with showmanship at 7 a.m. in the Iowa Showbarn. The flag raising will be at 8.

Coloring contest entries will be accepted in the fair office in the Tuttle Lake building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The poultry show with showmanship will be in the Twelve Mile Lake building at 11.

Commercial buildings open from noon to 9 p.m. in the Ellsworth Building. Carolan rides also open at noon. Wristbands are available in the fair office.

The Rabbit show with showmanship will be at 2 in the Twelve Mile Lake building with beef showmanship at 5 at the Iowa Showbarn. A drawing for coloring contest winners will also be held at 5 in the fair office.

The Cattlemen's supper will be held from 5-7 in the Eagle Lake building with music by Mobile 54. Supreme showmanship for seniors will be in the Iowa Showbarn at 6:30.

Bound to be popular again this year is the tractor pull east of the arena starting 6:30 Friday night. The Bill Riley Talent Show is at 7:30 in the Ingham Lake building.

A free movie will be shown in the Eagle Lake building at 9 p.m. with the flag lowering also at 9.

Sunday events kick off with the beef show in the grassy area starting at 7. The flag raising will be at 8 and the Northwest Iowa Horse Show stars at 9 in the arena.

Carolan rides open at 9 and a balloon artist will start at 11. The open class pet show will start at noon in the Tuttle Lake building with the 4-H pet show to follow.

Commercial buildings will be open from noon to 7 p.m. in the Ellsworth building. Registration for the kids pedal pull will be north of the Swan Lake building at 2, with the airbrush tattoo artist also at 2.

The dog show will be held at 3 in the Tuttle Lake building. The Creative Spirits class will start in the Ingham Lake building at 3:30. Registration is available at www.creativespiritsokoboji.com. Registration is $35 for adults and $25 for kids and a minimum of 20 must be registered for the class by Friday, July 25.

The free fair supper will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the Eagle Lake building, sponsored by Farm Bureau and Agrigold.

Hypnotist Brian Imbus will entertain in a free show at 6 p.m. in the Eagle Lake building. Pony rides will be at the Cheever Lake building from 6-8 p.m. Comedian Scott Novotny will also perform free at 7 in the Eagle Lake building with free pop and popcorn sponsored by Farm Bureau.

A teen dance and hypnosis show will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Ingham Lake building with DJ - Runway Mobile Sound. Admission is $5 a person. The flag will be lowered at 9.

Sunday events start with the flag raising at 8. Church services will be held at 9:30 at Palestine Lutheran Church on the museum grounds.

The 4-H Cooking Club chili cook off will be at the Eagle Lake building at 10.

The 4-H and open class bucket bottle calf and lamb show will be at noon in the Iowa Showbarn. Kiwanis kid games will follow at 1 at the Eagle Lake grassy area.

The 4-H communications showcase will be at 1:30 in the Ingham Lake building.

Monster arm wrestling weigh-in will be at noon in the Eagle Lake grassy area with wrestling starting at 1. Cowchip bingo, sponsored by the 4-H County Council, will be at 2 in the grassy area.

The fair parade of champions and awards program will be at the Iowa Showbarn at 3:30. The county fair super will be held at the Eagle Lake building 4:15-5:30 with a pulled pork sandwich, chips, baked beans, dessert and beverage for $5.

All open class and 4-H/FFA entries may leave at 5. The 4-H/FFA market livestock premium auction will be in the Iowa Showbarn at 5:15. The fair ends with lowering the flag at 9.

Food available this year includes:

n 4-H food stand - Ingham Lake building. Subs, pizza, walking taco, pulled pork and root beer floats.

n Anderson Concessions - Eagle Lake grassy area. Miniature donuts, nachos and caramel apples.

n Feed bunk - Snack Shack building. Open for breakfast and lunch.

n R.J. Kettle Corn - Eagle Lake grassy area. All flavors of kettle corn.

n Saddle Club food stand - arena chuckwagon stand. Hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, walking taco and bars.

n Shaved Ice LLC - Eagle Lake grassy area. All flavors of shaved ice, hard ice cream and cotton candy.

n Snack Land - South side of Tuttle Lake building. Biscuits and gravy, maidrites, coney dogs, quarter-pound hot dog and pulled pork.
